We welcome you to stay at this delightful French house set in the
middle of a small picturesque hill village full of rustic charm. This
house has original stone walls, a wood-burning stove, vaulted caves and
high ceilinged silk rooms. It is situated in a peaceful courtyard, where
alfresco meals can be enjoyed, and then the afternoon siesta under the
cool arch. A garden barbecue, fountain and exterior lighting all add to
the enjoyment of life outside.

Aigremont is situated in the Gard department of Languedoc Rousillon,
in the foothills of the
Cévennes, very close to Nîmes and Montpellier Airports and within
easy access for exploring the Mediterranean and for excursions to Spain,
Italy and Switzerland. Visit the historic sites of
Nîmes,
Montpellier,
Avignon,
Arles and the
Pont du Gard, play golf at eight outstanding golf courses within 45
minutes drive, walk in the National Parks of the
Cévennes and the
Camargue, swim in the mountain rivers. Canoeing, rafting and
horse-riding and ski-ing (one hour away) are all available within easy
access. Make sure you visit the highly rated vignerons nearby. An
English cinema is opening soon in Alès.

<< Behind the arched blue door lies a restored 15th-century silk mill,
its vaulted cellar rooms intact. It is an Aladdin’s cave, an
intoxicating mix of French, English, Moroccan and Indian treasures.
Escape the blistering heat into this cool, calm space; the village is
cooly perched in the foothills of the Cévennes and you are in the middle
of it. No garden, but a peaceful gravelled courtyard with chairs for
dozing, a barbecue, a fountain and a summer shower. Inside, your gaze
drifts to mellow yellow-washed walls, tiles - the best of old and new -
and lofty ceilings. The sitting room is cavernous but is cosy in
wintertime: a wood-burning stove, William Morris-covered armchairs,
comfy sofas, books, an upright piano. Arched doors lead from the
well-equipped kitchen into the courtyard where you may eat. Up a floor
and those lofty old silk rooms have magically become bedrooms, one with
a dreamy Provençal mural behind the bed, another with a patchwork
bedspread. History, big open fields and vineyards await - if you can

There are 3 golf courses within an hour's drive. The local village has
an excellent shop and caters for all basic needs; visiting greengrocers
and fish vans come during the week. We have one of the best restaurants
in the area just round the corner from the house. Ledignan, 3 kms away,
has every shop necessary for your culinary delights. Potter down to
Anduze to enjoy a convivial day with markets, summer festivals and it is
known as the Gateway to the Cevenne

This silkmill is very child friendly with play area in the village and
outside ping-pong nearby. The house offers excellent accommodation and
is decorated and furnished to a very high standard (home from home) with
every comfort imaginable - including a well stocked library. Outside we
have a beautiful courtyard retaining all the original features, a
countain, outside shower, old stone seat surrounded by Anduze pots. A
cool sitting/eating area with table chairs under the arch with an
excellent weber barbecue. The sitting room has a wood burning stove and
comfortable chairs and a piano with a marvellous library. It has vaulted
ceilings and is very cool in summer. Upstairs there is another sitting
room where you can sit comfortably and enjoy listening to our music
collection.
